Microtrap Fabrication Technology for
Trapped Ion Quantum Information Science

Ion Shuttling

Ion Shuttling:
Fast ion shuttling between different regions (eg processor and memory registers) of a trapped ion array without loss of coherence constitutes one of the primary routes to QIP incorporating remote registers. Siegen have developed single-channel fast FPGA controlled DAC prototype for fast ion shuttling:

  • 50 MHz update rate demonstrated
  • Scalable to 100 channels
  • Each electrode will have DAC, each DAC own memory
  • DAC array controlled by multiple FPGAs
  • Motherboard / daughterboard approach to facilitate expansion
